Full Time (40 hours per week)

Day Shift: Monday - Friday

8:00am - 5:00pm

General Summary

To coordinate research protocols. Specifically interacting with study participants, collecting, entering, tabulating, managing and analyzing research data, and work with other staff as part of studies examining psychosocial processes in individuals and/or families.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Becomes familiar with purpose as well as details of each protocol in which he/she will be involved through the review of the consent and protocol itself. Familiarizes potential subjects with the details of the study through phone contacts and personal interviews. Manages existing and creates new databases for lab studies. Performs data analysis using statistical software packages available in the lab (SAS and JMP SAS).

2. May lead subject recruitment efforts, including organizing, tracking, and scheduling study subjects in conjunction with other research staff. This includes recruiting and interviewing prospective subjects for studies. Obtaining medical history, completing questionnaires and reviewing data with investigator or member of the management team. Schedules subject participation in research, coordinating availability of necessary space, laboratory and physician support. Will be called upon to make community contacts for subject referrals

3. May be called upon to accurately administer study psychological assessments/tests and performs psychological and/or behavioral coding. This includes maintaining reliability with standardized assessments and other interviews and/or coders. Will assist with training new staff on interview and coding procedures.

4. Is familiar with all records required for each study, reviews records after each visit for completeness and accuracy. Maintains subject charts on all laboratory, pulmonary function, interview, questionnaire and coded data. Insures receipt and recording of all reports. Accurately organizes, tracks and maintains study records and files, including medical files, in conjunction with other research staff.

5. Demonstrates accuracy in all details including collecting, recording, and entering data. Leads Quality Assurance (QA) programs for data collection and documentation.

6. Completes any required age-specific and CPR competencies. Implements services that address age-specific needs while working with research subjects.

7. Performs as a backup to staff absences and vacancies, as necessary.

8. May be called upon to perform the following specific tests and procedures (will require completion of competency requirements): a) skin testing; b) spirometry; c) interviewing d) specimen collection; e) administer psychiatric/psychological assessments.

9. May be called upon to travel outside of the institution for community based research studies. Including contacts with community health institutions and home visitation with research subjects.

10. Performs all other duties as assigned.

2. Participates in Quality Assessment (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) programs, as directed.

3. Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission and all other Federal, State and Regulatory Agencies.

4. Responds promptly and sincerely to customer's needs, requests and concerns via all communication forms using easily understood language and refraining from using inappropriate language and non-verbal gestures.

5. Maintains positive working relationships as a team player through problem solving issues, speaking positively about others, listening attentively and observing the Patient Bill of Rights and Confidentiality.

6. Increases customer service knowledge, skill and ability by participating in department and institution-wide specific programs.

7. Incorporates National Jewish's identity (Science Transforming Life®) into daily functions. Speaks positively about the institution, provides customers with prompt service, maintains a clean and safe working environment, dresses appropriately based upon National Jewish safety standards, and departmental policies and wears an ID badge visibly.

Knowledge and Skills

A working knowledge of word processing, data base management, and basic statistical techniques also required. Good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Good command of the English language, both written and verbal. Some Behavioral Researcher positions may require bilingual Spanish speaking skills. Command of statistical software packages. Fluent in Spanish with verbal and written skills preferred.


Bachelors in Psychology or other related social science required. Masters of Arts/Sciences in Psychology or other related social science, preferred.

Certification and Licensure

CPR/BLS required. Any additional certification required to meet research standards.

Work Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of experience with interviewing in or working on psychosocial and/or treatment outcome projects following research protocols is preferred. Must show ability to adjust to changing requirements of research projects.

Working Conditions

Position is an office environment. Frequent requirements may include: sitting for extended periods, entering and manipulating data on a workstation computer and participating in team/executive meetings. Approximately 75% of daily responsibilities will be working both one-on-one and in teams with other personnel and extended one-on-one contact in a quiet environment where hearing and listening is paramount. Must possess the ability to communicate by observation, verbal, written and listening; standing; walking; climbing stairs; stooping to remove/replace files; good hand-eye coordination; lifting, pulling, pushing, and upper body twisting while handling supplies and equipment; sitting while completing paperwork; using keyboard for PC and word processing needs. Occasional requirements may include: stand, walk, use hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and lift/move up to 25 pounds. Incumbent may be scheduled to work an alternate schedule to accommodate essential business needs routine travel by foot or automobile to alternate work/meeting locations, possibly during inclement weather.

No environmental conditions indicated. Professional office environment with time of each day spent in interaction with management/staff, in addition to planning and working autonomously. Requires teamwork and the ability to handle multiple interruptions; frequently fast-paced; high-pressure; occasionally variable-paced; variable pressure. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided to each employee when needed as determined by policy. Utilization of PPE is mandatory. Estimated 1500 employees in the worksite.
