Position Summary    

To release health information in the form of medical record information (paper or electronic) to authorized parties, including but not limited to physicians, attorneys, insurance companies, and patients, complying with legal and governmental guidelines.


Essential Duties    

  1. Enters patient authorized release of information requests, and finalized requests into the correspondence application of the electronic information system. Utilizes the computer to log in and log out all requests of information.
  2. Retrieves paper records and/or electronic medical records to comply with requests for medical information and sends information in the correct format (mailing, faxing, disc, uploading, emailing, etc.) Ensures confidentiality in any format.
  3. Executes the sending of information by understanding the requests while following all policy and procedure guidelines and any federal and state law guidelines.
  4. Burns imaging discs on a daily basis for sending to requestors; and/or requests the imaging department to upload images to facilities on Power Share.
  5. Reviews all tasks in the personal task bucket daily and replies to the task generated by when completed. Completes tasks within 48 hours of receipt.
  6. Answers telephone calls or messages during shift. STAT calls are handled within two hours of receiving the call. 
  7. Identifies issues that may be brought through the patient advocate and responds on a STAT timeframe, either through handling personally or communicating with immediate supervisor.
  8. Acts as a liaison between the institution’s physicians and outside attorneys when needed. Communicates with National Jewish Health administration when increased support is needed via National Jewish Health attorneys.
  9. Maintains financial records, which includes having funds ready for pick on the designated day and time by finance.

Minimum Qualifications


Education    

High school diploma or equivalent required.  


Work Experience    

A minimum of one (1) year experience in a medical setting required.
