Releasing medical information from the medical record to authorized parties including but not limited to physicians, attorneys, insurance companies, and patients.
1. Enters patient authorized release of information requests, and finalized requests into Correspondence application of the information system. Utilize the computer to retrieve patient information.
2. Retrieves and files medical records to answer release of information requests, which includes copying pertinent aspects of the medical record.
3. Executes the mailing of medical information to include reading and understanding the request, following all policy and procedure guidelines and any state law guidelines. Accurate and timely patient authorization is mandatory.
4. Answers routine and stat telephone calls which require immediate response, following all policy and procedure guidelines for answering telephone calls.
5. Acts as a liaison between the Institution physicians and outside attorneys in the processing of deposition requests. Communication, verbal or written, including verifying attorney representation, setting date and time, reimbursement for services, setting up conference room, etc. between physician and attorney is essential.
6. Maintains financial records, to include disposition of reimbursement funds for depositions well as routine requests.
7. Respects patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality in all phases of work.
8. Has awareness of the age difference among the National Jewish patient population and has the ability to interact with them.
9. Performs medical record processor/analyzer/courier functions in absence of coworkers and/or when the workload demands.
10. Faxes information to hospitals or physicians office for continuity of patient care.
11. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills
Good oral and written communication skills. Knowledge and/or experience in release of information, medical records, and medical terminology, as well as word processing experience utilizing IBM or compatible systems. Word processing application knowledge is desired.
High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Certification and Licensure
A minimum one (1) year experience in a medical setting performing release of information required.

Position is an office environment. Frequent requirements may include: sitting for extended periods, entering and manipulating data on a workstation computer and participating in team/executive meetings. Approximately 75% of daily responsibilities will be working both one-on-one and in teams with other personnel and extended one-on-one contact in a quiet environment where hearing and listening is paramount. Must possess the ability to communicate by observation, verbal, written and listening; standing; walking; climbing stairs; stooping to remove/replace files; good hand-eye coordination; lifting, pulling, pushing, and upper body twisting while handling supplies and equipment; sitting while completing paperwork; using keyboard for PC and word processing needs. Occasional requirements may include: stand, walk, use hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and lift/move up to 25 pounds. Incumbent may be scheduled to work an alternate schedule to accommodate essential business needs routine travel by foot or automobile to alternate work/meeting locations, possibly during inclement weather.

Requires teamwork and the ability to handle multiple interruptions; frequently fast-paced; high-pressure; occasionally variable-paced; variable pressure.
