Responsible and accountable for performing quality Diagnostic Sleep Study Testing in accordance with the standards set forth by American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologist (BRPT) and American Association of Sleep Technologist (AAST). Works within interdisciplinary teams to provide safe and personalized care for the patient.
1. Performs high quality diagnostic sleep study testing to assist the physician in the diagnosis of sleep breathing conditions in accordance with AASM, BRPT, AAST, and departmental policy and procedure.
2. Proficient with analysis of diagnostic sleep study data in accordance with AASM, BRPT, AAST, and departmental policy and procedure.
3. Prepares and completes all required documentation in a thorough and accurate manner.
4. Proficient in the use and navigation of all sleep software and the electronic medical record.
5. Performs all related responsibilities associated with sleep studies testing to include operating and maintaining equipment in accordance with hospital and department safety policy and procedures.
6. Participates in quality improvement processes on an on-going basis, including acting as quality control subject as assigned.
7. Maintains continuing education requirements as outlined by specific credentials through the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologist (BRPT) and per the accreditation standards through the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), as well as institutional policies.
8. Provides guidance to less experienced staff to assure high quality sleep studies on all patients.
9. Proficient with the application of all PAP therapies (CPAP, BIPAP, ASV, AVAPS) and medications in accordance to the AASM, insurance requirements and regulations, and department policies and procedures.

Associates Degree in sciences or healthcare or equivalent required. Completion of a STAR-designated Self-Study education program, graduate from an education program in polysomnography accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) or completion of both a STAR-designated Self-Study education program AND a STAR-designated Focused 2 program.
Proficiency in all competencies required of a Trainee I and Trainee II. A minimum of ten and half (10.5) months with a cumulative total of 1,638 hour or more of Clinical polysomnography experience or equivalent required or a minimum of four (4) months with a cumulative total of 546 or more of clinical polysomnography experience and a current allied health credential according to the accepted allied heath credential list of the RPSGT Candidate Handbook.
Special Training, Certification or Licensure
Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnography Sleep Technologist (RPSGT) or equivalent required. Required to maintain RPSGT credentialing per the AASM, BRPT, AAST and/or equivalent certifying body. BLS required.
